Open Data Portal

The city of Dortmund has rebuilt and optimized its open data portal. At open-data.dortmund.de, citizens can now view over 470 datasets and use them freely.

The freely available data sets are diverse: they include, for example, current construction sites, locations of swimming pools, election results, all buildings in the city area, unemployment figures and spaces for Park and Ride in Dortmund. The portal can be accessed at: open-data.dortmund.de.

A detailed filter helps users with their search. In addition to the usual presentation in table form, the data can now also be displayed in diagrams. In addition, the map function can be used to visualize different data in the Dortmund area at the same time, such as the daily construction sites together with elementary school and kindergartens in the city area. Planned construction sites can now also be displayed in the portal.

The display types can be easily shared by users, embedded in websites and reused as widgets. The API interface enables developers to automatically retrieve and reuse data so that the latest data is always available. Another new feature is the link in the individual data sets to the apps of the city’s GEO portal geo.dortmund.de. For this purpose, extended displays of the data can now be called up in many data sets.

Easy access to open data for all citizens

The city of Dortmund has been making open data available on its open data portal since mid-2018: urban society, business, research, administration and interested parties outside the city limits can use the data freely. This data has now been processed for the new portal, supplemented with new data sets – such as places of interest (“XErleben”) – and updated in existing data sets (e.g. on population movements).

Important to know: Data with personal and security-relevant content as well as all data subject to data protection have not been and will not be published in the future.

Open Data team looks forward to further suggestions

User-friendly access to open data and facts now makes it easier to obtain information. The requests received were taken into account and implemented as far as possible. The city administration’s data offering is being further expanded. It is important to the Open Data team to continue to receive requests and suggestions in the future. Sedat Akar, Deputy Chairman CIIO and “Digital City” team leader at the City of Dortmund, is certain: “The new open data portal will help to make the diversity of data more visible and make data experiences fun. The digitalization of the city is thus making further progress.”

Old portal temporarily still accessible

The old portal at www.opendata.dortmund.de will now be available for another six months and will then be shut down.
