The limit values for nitrogen oxide concentrations in the air we breathe are still being exceeded in all German conurbations. Against this background, up to 400 charging points will be integrated into the existing street lighting in public spaces in Dortmund by 2022. The target group includes, in particular, private individuals who do not have charging facilities on their own property or who park in public spaces as “street parkers”. When selecting locations, the focus is therefore on dense residential areas with proximity to public transport. In the future, e-vehicles can be charged with a standard charging cable (plug type 2) at all converted street lamps. The project is embedded in the Smart City strategy of the city of Dortmund.
