With around 54,000 students at seven universities, 19 non-university research institutes – including institutions of the Leibniz Association, the Max Planck Society and the Fraunhofer Society -, over 10,000 employees and the TechnologieZentrumDortmund as an innovation hub, Dortmund is one of the largest university and science locations in Germany. Numerous science-oriented companies, cultural institutions, libraries, museums and archives further enrich Dortmund’s scientific landscape.
In the Dortmund Science Master Plan, science, business, culture and the city have been working together strategically since 2011. The continuation of the master plan was decided in 2021. The Science 2.0 Master Plan is an agile process that enables a flexible response to new developments and dynamics. The participants in the thematic groups are continuously working on the content.
