The award as the first German Innovation Capital of Europe and the approach “innovation next door – future from the neighborhood” are to be made visible in Dortmund and beyond.

Mural

One form of urban art can be painted murals. A mural can transform even the most desolate corners of a city into special places and confront passers-by with art, intentionally or unintentionally. Murals can invite their viewers to reflect and dream or simply bring joy because they make the environment more colorful.

Dortmund has become richer by another mural in 2023. an artist Juri Schäffer from Dortmund let off steam on an area of approx. 280 m². In his mural he picks up Dortmund’s innovation approach “Future from the Neighborhood” and ideas of European cooperation. Filmmaker Younes Laaguidi captured the process of creating the mural in the following video:

Where the world comes together

You can already see them from the B1 and they are the large LED walls in the Dortmund Westfalenfallen. Around 60 trade fairs are held locally with thousands of local regional and international visitors*. Already at the world finals of the World Robot Olympics in 2022, 350 teams from over 73 countries as well as trade fair visitors* were able to view the iCapital LED walls.
